My Promise

I stand on the other side of this screen, hands stretched.
The desire to do better, to help etched,
Across the worry lines in my forehead,
The light in my eyes ignite, letting you know chivalry is not dead.
Instead I urge you to rest your head on this shoulder,
I’ll be your rock, your foundation your boulder.
I will not waver nor falter in your times of despair,
Hold my hand, I’ll accompany you through hell I swear.

Every Journey Must End

I yearn to inspire,
I burn with desire.
The desire to love,
To live, to laugh.
I craft a place to belong,
But before long
I crash.
Like all good things
I too burn too bright,
I too lose sight of what’s right,
I too put my heart first and drive blind.
I too find,
True.
Love.

Illustrations of the Heart

I’m a poet don’t you know it,
I’ll give you a part of my soul low and behold I’m me.
Every pen stroke and ink on that page is me,
Every canvas soiled with color is me,
What you see is me.
What you feel as the words choke you is me.
That feeling like the air is retreating from your lungs, that’s me.
Those tears in your eyes…
That hole in your heart…
The fire, you no longer can even think to start.
The blood you now see,
The body laying limp on the floor,
The “do not disturb” sign on the door,
This message…
…That’s me.

Longing

I know our hands may never meet but my soul yearns for you.
I know our eyes may never meet but my love is true.
I know you’ll never feel my breath in your neck like before,
But I’m sure I’ll never forget you, I’m your Christian you’re my dior.
As surely as the sun sets on every day,
Nothing will ever get in my way.
Eventually your hands will nestle in mine again,
Eventually you’ll be more than lovers or best friends.

Nightmare

One would think with reality being a nightmare I would embrace sleep.
But that would be an unfounded leap,
I’m bound to the land of the living as a new bird to its nest.
Or land of the existing for I can’t seem to take off this vest,
I can’t seem to spread my wings,
I can’t seem to beat my chest,
I can’t feel these amazing things,
I can’t seem to forget the past,
Which night will be my last?

Skyline

The clouds float idly by in the sky,
And I float idly by on the ground.
Listening, absorbing every sound,
Questioning every authority, asking why?
There are so many layers to these clouds.
So the sun hides as if representing me.
Shrouded in insecurities it’s hard to be proud,
But when even the sun hides, it kinda sets me free.

Tears Of Joy

I’m sorry, but I can’t apologise for loving you.
It sends the message my feelings aren’t true,
And there is nothing I won’t do,
To rebuke any inclination that, that is a fact.
You knew, and I know, this isn’t something I act.
This isn’t a play nor some ploy,
This isn’t an elaborate attempt to destroy,
But to rebuild and reconstruct.
I preach but forget my sermon, watch my conduct.
I’ll practice and I’ll teach and my speech will make you weep,
But my actions will make you drown deep.
My love will be your oxygen and I’ll give you an infinite supply,
We’ll explore the deep blue and you’ll never be afraid to cry…

One Last Time

One more time, just take my hand.
Let me take you to a place that I hold
Almost to the level on which you stand.
Let me share with you a heart worth more than gold.
Let’s fold,
Into one and consume time.
Let’s fall so that each mountain we climb
Will be an experience so sublime,
Let’s risk it all, just one last time.

For the First Time

I sit across from you,
Smoke in the air clouding our views.
All that we are falls to the floor,
Our story floods, without the lore.
Without the fairytale, laid bare
I can almost hear,
The sound of your heart beating in sync with mine.
I can almost hear the wind whispering, “it’ll be fine.”
I know these times are hard, they’re making us crazy,
But I’m looking in your eyes and seeing maybe.
The air tense with the suspense,
It’s like we fell in love again for the first time.
